Watch our Vietnam and Cambodia recap video below and read about getting flooded out in Hue, our time in off-the-beaten path central Vietnam, the coolest things to do in adorable Hoi An, and how we tackled Siem Reap in three days.
• Flights from Hong Kong to Da Nang: $175
• Flights from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap: $358
• Vietnam visas: $50
• Cambodia visas: $60
• Airbnbs/hotels (21 nights): $807
• Transit (trains, taxis, motorbike, car + driver, tuk tuks): $374
• Food/drinks/groceries: $925, which comes out to $21 pp per day
• Extras (hikes, tours, clothing made, park pass, massages, etc.): $720
TOTAL: $3469
We came in just under $500 over on this portion of the trip, but this is a bit of a weird one because we actually did great in Vietnam, staying well within our budget without a problem. But because we tacked on a quick trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia at the end, we blew the budget out of the water with a very expensive extra flight (which accounts for the majority of that budget overage), a more-expensive-than-typical-for-us place to stay, and three days straight of drivers and admission fees for temples and museums. In retrospect, we should have spent more time in Cambodia to make the additional flight worthwhile.
