Four different locations in two weeks, necessitating two flights within the country, is never a good idea if you’re trying to keep costs down. But Little Corn Island (costing us about $400 in travel expenses) was on our list from the beginning, and it didn’t hurt that we made friends early on in our travels at a festival in Croatia who live on Little Corn and invited us to stay with them. Budget travel tip – if someone offers a free place to stay, take it! We didn’t realize how incredibly money-saving their generosity was until we arrived on the island and realized that even rustic little beach bungalows with cold showers cost a pretty penny there. Our second week in Nicaragua was spent with my sister and brother-in-law checking out three other regions. The accommodations were not as expensive on that side of the country, food was cheap, and we did a lot of outdoor/free activities, which helped as well. So we went over budget here by almost $400, which is not great, but not terrible for as much as we got to see and do in such a short time.
